The gerbera daisies are popular ornamental flowers. The genus Gerbera is comprised of about thirty wild species. They were discovered not that long ago - in 1884 in South Africa. They were bred in England during the latter 19th century in order to enhance their appearance, the range of colors available, and ultimately improve their commercial potential.

As more and more travelers brought home examples, the gerbera daisies grew in popularity. It is now one of the more common fresh cut flowers|delivery flowers|delivery flowers|fresh cut flowers|cut flowers used commercially. The flowers are mainly gown in the Netherlands and Columbia. There are thousands of hybrid versions available that vary in size, shape, marking, and colors.
