Muslims in Islamic countries are very strict on the relationships that younger generations have with one another. Essentially- dating in the western sense if forbidden. But there are a few alternatives to the strict Muslim practices that have given youth the ability to network socially without breaking any Muslim rules or laws.

Marriage is commonly characterized with the term “love” in most civilizations. In Islam, the term “compatibility” is much more common. Muslims will find a mate based on their compatibility, as their parents will do the searching for them. Many Muslims have been resorting to the Internet for a way of dating online. Online social networking services can not cater to the needs of Muslims, while still remaining lawful in the process. For some Muslims, however, even this is not allowed as some strict Muslims will stick to the time-tested process of having parents choose the mate of the youth in question.

In the end, there are many rules and regulations to consider when a Muslim wishes to find a mate. In particular, a mate will often take long periods of time in order to finalize any marriage contracts. But while this holds true for strict Muslim families, others that are more lenient will indeed welcome acts such as Internet dating, in which case Muslim youth can enjoy the wonderful advances in technology that enable hybrid forms of dating.
